Jorge signed for Walsall in the summer of 2000, with the Saddlers matching
the record transfer fee they paid for Alan Buckley years before of £150,000.
In his first season at Bescot, he was prolific in front of goal, and his
partnership with Darren Byfield, plus Brett Angell and later Don Goodman
fired Walsall into the First Division.
His second season was not as good as his first, but when Colin Lee took over
as boss last winter, Jorge found form once again and was offered a contract
extension in the summer of 2002 after his goals kept Walsall in Division
One.
He came back to pre-season training looking a little overweight, but a
superbly taken goal in the win over Brighton in August 2002 set him up
nicely and he has since formed a good partnership with Brazillian striker
Junior.
Jorge has attracted interest in the past from bigger clubs, but he seems
happy at Walsall and has faith in the Saddlers, plus he enjoys a good
rapport with the home fans, so he may be around for a while.
Definately worth watching when your side plays Walsall, if only for his terrific
work-rate as well as his eye for goal..
