Okay, enough excuses, here's what's going on in the league. The US GP provided more controversy than anything Jacques Villeneuve could provide by running his teammate off the track in Monaco! It also made calculating the scores here tricky, as I'd never envisaged 70% of the grid electing not to take the start of the race. However, I got there eventually.
You may well get a few queries about the scoring for this race, and you're probably wondering quite how any of the Michelin runners scored points. If
you can't answer them, feel free to refer them to FF1@BAR-Talk.com, where I'll happily answer any questions.
To help you, let me use the official BAR-Talk.com team as an example...
Chass: BAR
Engin: Honda
Driv1: Button
Driv2: Sato
Tyres: Michelin
In qualifying, we managed 3rd and 8th, so Button and Sato get 14 and 8 points. BAR and Honda therefore get 14 each. Trulli took pole, so Michelin
get 20 points. That gives us 70 points for qualifying.
In the 'race' we were classified as 9th and 12th, so Button and Sato get 35 and 20. As the retirements weren't the drivers fault, they keep these points.
BAR and Honda both get 40% of that total, so that's 40% of 55 - 22 points. The top two Michelin's were also classified 7th and 8th, so that's 34 for the tyres, amazingly. So far that gives us 133 points for the race.
However, the team failed to finish the race, so BAR lose 60 points, 30 for each car that didn't get to the end. Or even start. As I only have driver,
chassis or engine to penalise, it's the chassis chosen that loses the points. Honda, therefore, retain their 22 points, as they weren't to blame for the failure.
Taking that 60 away now gives us 73 for the race - added to the 70 for qualifying, and missing out on the fastest lap bonus, we get 143 points for the event as a whole.
Now we've got that sorted, here's the top 10 for the USA and overall from Sauber Speak...
